Best first-line treatment for hip & knee osteoarthritis
Mead Physio Group is excited to announce our official certification and commencement of the world-recognised GLA:D® Program - simple, cost effective and non-invasive treatment for hip and/or knee osteoarthritis.
Suitable for all individuals who experience any hip and/or knee pain or symptoms of osteoarthritis, regardless of severity.
GLA:D® is an education and exercise program designed to help reduce the symptoms of hip and/or knee osteoarthritis. It is offered world-wide and has the strongest supporting research evidence of its effectiveness.
There are 2 education sessions and 12 supervised exercise sessions over 6 weeks. Each session runs for approx. 60 minutes and are run by our Mead Physio clinicians who have been trained by GLA:D® Australia.
Part A and Part B cover the science behind arthritis, and how to manage your arthritis, respectively. These sessions are run at Exercise Right & Rehab each Wednesday evening 5-6pm.Entry is FREE.
Bookings are essential
You will take part in a total of 12 exercise sessions over 6 weeks. The GLA:D® exercises are a set of 10 exercises, plus warm-up and cool-down, aimed at improving the strength and function around your hips and knees. Sessions are conducted in small groups of 4-6 people.
First line treatment: Educating patients about osteoarthritis, supervised exercise therapy, and weight management.

First + second line treatment: Supplementing primary treatments with medications, passive therapies like TENS and manual therapy, braces, shoe inserts, walking aids, and injections.
First, second + third line treatment: Surgery is reserved for cases where primary and secondary treatments are ineffective. However, most individuals can manage osteoarthritis symptoms without surgery.
To take part in this program, you can be referred by your doctor or you can refer yourself. You will need to book and pay for an initial assessment with a GLA:D® accredited Mead therapist to establish your fitness level and goals before your program commences.
