Pilates is a safe and highly effective way to exercise, suitable for people of all ages, fitness levels and health conditions. Whether you're looking to improve strength, flexibility or recover from injury, Pilates offers something for everyone. Its gentle, low-impact movements make it particularly beneficial for those dealing with spinal pain, arthritis or post-surgical rehabilitation. Many women also find it helpful during pre- and post-pregnancy to maintain pelvic and abdominal control safely.
At Exercise Right & Rehab, we offer a variety of Pilates classes to suit different needs, including both Reformer and Matwork options. Let’s take a look at the benefits of Pilates and the difference between these two popular methods, so you can decide which is best for you!
‍
Matwork Pilates is a group class conducted on the floor using an exercise mat. These sessions often incorporate small apparatus like Magic Circles, Therabands, or Foam Rollers to keep the exercises varied and fun. It’s a great option if you have moderate fitness levels and can comfortably move from the ground.
Reformer Pilates classes are set up for small groups and involve using the Reformer machine. These classes are designed for individuals with moderate fitness levels who want to add variety and a bit of a challenge to their workout. Like Matwork, Reformer classes use small equipment for a full-body workout. However, it’s important to note that this class is not suitable for those recovering from injury.
Designed for clients recovering from injury or surgery, these sessions are carefully supervised by our health professionals. Each participant follows a personalised program prescribed by their physiotherapist or exercise physiologist. These classes are ideal for those in need of a safe, controlled environment as they work toward regaining strength and mobility.
Whether you're aiming for injury prevention, enhanced athletic performance, or post-injury recovery, Pilates helps you move with strength and ease.
